The Métis Nation of Ontario Two-Spirit Working Group would like to invite all Ontario Metis to the first-ever Two-Spirit (2SLGBTQI) Leadership Symposium. This one-day, Two-Spirit Symposium will be packed with special guest speakers from all over the rainbow!
Framed though a 2SLGBTQ and Métis lens, the conference “A Place in the Circle” will take place from 9AM-4PM and is open to all Métis Citizens. Attendees can benefit from the insight and perspective of a 2SLGBTQ community panel (ranging from young adults to elders); and will hear from special guests including MNO President Margaret Froh, singer-songwriter Amanda Rheaume, and Métis author Cherie Dimaline.
Following the conference, there will be an optional beaded wall pocket workshop in the evening from 6PM -9:30 PM (only available to 2SLGBTQI+ folks). Space for this workshop is limited to the first 25 people who apply.
Organizers hope this symposium will be the first of many future events that celebrate the two-spirit Ontario Métis community.
“With this being the first symposium of its kind, we hope to give a voice to the often marginalized two-spirit community, and build capacity and allyship within the MNO,” says Justin Moore, MNO Program and Quality Assurance Coordinator. “We’ll also be hosting a community panel to highlight the diverse experiences of 2SLGBTQ folks from across the rainbow.”
Creating spaces for queer identifying Citizens is a valuable asset, and for progress to be made within the community, the agendas of both the 2SLGBTQ community and the MNO must align. The MNO is thrilled be to working with the Two-Spirit community and looks forward to building relationships and capacity with the Two-Spirit Working Group. The voices of all of our Citizens are important and worth celebrating.
We hope you’ll take part in “A Place in the Circle” on Saturday, Feb 20th!
