MNO’s Métis Child, Youth and Family Services Project
Calling all MNO Citizens in Regions 2 – 9 - Community Engagement Sessions in 2021
Registration deadline extended (see below)
The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) has launched the Métis Child, Youth and Family Services (CYFS) Project. The Project has two primary goals: Improving the current system by: creating greater clarity about the role of MNO in current child welfare cases; establishing more formalized relationships with child welfare agencies (Children’s Aid Societies and Indigenous Child Well-being Agencies) to address issues that are problematic in the current system; and,
-
- Building a system that is conducive to Métis specific child, youth and family needs. This system may include components that are new; it may also incorporate existing components that may be relevant. The components of this system will be identified through community engagement, by citizens in Regions 2-9. There is opportunity to expand existing child, youth and family service provision and identify new opportunities. Each Region/community may take a different approach depending on their needs. (Region 1 engagements have commenced, led by Regional Councillor Theresa Stenlund).
- MNO is hosting the first round of engagements for Regions 2-9. These “visioning phase” sessions will be held online via Zoom from February 16 to March 8, 2021 with afternoon and evening options.
These engagements are for citizens to develop a vision that will inform the reimagined child welfare system for Métis children, youth and families across the province. Once the vision is captured in the first round of engagements, there will be a second round that will focus on design and implementation. Regions and communities will have the opportunity to identify their specific priorities, the engagements that follow the visioning phase will seek to capture these various approaches.
Virtual Engagement Sessions (Zoom):
All Métis citizens are invited to participate in a virtual engagement session. Each Region has multiple days/times to choose from. Please indicate your Region (2-9) and community as well as your preference in day/time when you RSVP.
Please RSVP to: Alisha Kaba at alishak@metisnation.org no later than February 12, 2021 as spaces are limited! When you RSVP, you will receive reference resources before the session. If sessions reach capacity, additional sessions may be considered as necessary.
