My name is Sasha Doxtator and I'm Wolf Clan from the Oneida Nation of the Thames. I was born and raised on the reservation and I grew up attending Long-house ceremonies. I come from a strong line of matriarchs and I'm a mother to a teenage daughter. My educational journey consists of mainly teachings from my elders and I am a certified language teacher. I recently returned to school to obtain my Bachelor's degree in Indigenous Studies. For the school years 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 I worked as a research assistant with the Physics and Astronomy
department at Western where I gathered Indigenous Astronomy stories, specifically
Haudenosaunee stories. We were able to develop an Indigenous astronomy course and it ran successfully in September 2019, the first course of its kind at Western. I am currently employed at Six Nations Polytechnic as a lecturer, teaching an Indigenous Ethnoastronomy course. I am also a part of the NASA American Indian/Alaska Native Working group where we share research and best practices. I enjoy learning about astronomy and space, and I am thankful for being able to help revive these teachings.
